If you are already selling over £1 million worth of merchandise in the UK and want to sell in the USA, we can help you get your product exported from anywhere in the world, imported into the USA and delivered to our fulfillment warehouse, so that we can process orders for your merchandise and then ship them to your customers in the USA. Our associates can help you with the three main tasks to get started:
1) Set up a Fulfillment Warehouse in the USA
Receives your goods in USA, manages your inventory, picks, sorts, packs, and ships your orders to your customers, invoices customers, can also provide customer service and coordinate other logistical support services.
2) Become an Importer of Record (IOR) in the U.S.A.
When you are the IOR, you can export from the UK to yourself in the U.S.A. as a Foreign Importer of Record.
To get established as a Foreign Importer of Record in the U.S.A. you will need to obtain an Importer of Record (IOR) number from US. Customs, and obtain a U.S. Customs bond.
- Your Customs broker can help you obtain you IOR number and your Customs bond. You will be asked to provide the following documents:
- A U.S. Customs Power of Attorney (POA), signed by two officers of your company. Your Customs broker can provide this document to you to fill out.
- A copy of your Articles of Incorporation.
- A copy of the document indicating that the two officers have the authority to sign the Power of Attorney, if this is not specified in the Articles of Incorporation.
- Scans or pictures of the IDs of the two company officers.
- Once your Customs broker has the preceding documents, your broker can apply for the Customs Assigned Number on your behalf, and then can obtain a Customs bond on your behalf, along with any other documents required to import your merchandise into the U.S.A.
3) Contract Export/Import/Customs/Freight Forwarding Services
If you are using UPS, FedEx, DHL, or another such end-to-end freight service, nothing else is required. Otherwise, arrange for the door-to-door details of exporting your product from the UK to its delivery to our fulfillment warehouse in the USA. This involves three distinct services, but just one of our associates can handle all these services for you:
A. Freight Forwarder – Makes sure that cargo makes all the connections in the supply chain
B. Carrier – Takes fiscal responsibility for cargo. Most are NVOCCs (non-vessel operator commercial carriers). Carriers can be secured by the Freight Forwarder.
C. Customs Broker – Makes sure that all documents and funds are in order to transfer goods in and out of countries. Our recommended Customs Brokers are also Freight Forwarders).
One more thing…
A U.S. bank checking account is not required in order to be an IOR of your own products, but it is required by some wholesale buyers. Also, when you have a U.S. checking account, you can easily open merchant accounts to accept credit cards, while you will have much greater flexibility in making deposits and disbursements in U.S. dollars. If your U.S. bank has a corresponding bank or branch in the UK, then the transfer of funds between countries can be inexpensive or free through ACH transactions.
To set up a U.S.A Bank Account, you will need to do the following:
Provide articles of incorporation/proof of company as a business entity.
Obtain a U.S. Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN) and then give this number to the bank.
An official representative of your UK company must have a face-to-face meeting with a bank officer. The face-to-face meeting is a requirement under the know your customer (KYC) banking regulation of the USA PATRIOT Act.
Obtain a street address in the U.S.A. This address can be the address of your agent, attorney, representative, or of a virtual address service.
