Pallet Calculator
Find the max cartons that fit on a pallet
How to Use the Pallet Configuration Calculator
Our free pallet calculator tells you how many boxes fit on a pallet and the best way to orient them — in about 30 seconds, no signup required.
Here's how to use the pallet configuration calculator:
Enter your carton dimensions. Input the length, width, and height of a single box in inches. Measure the outside of the carton, not the product inside it.
Add the carton weight. This lets the tool flag when you'll hit a weight limit before you run out of space.
Choose your pallet size. Select a standard footprint or enter custom dimensions — the pallet size calculator handles non-standard skids too.
Set your maximum stack height. Check your carrier's requirements or your retail partner's routing guide first. Height limits are one of the most common sources of retail chargebacks.
Review your results. The pallet loading calculator returns your total case count, the recommended orientation pattern, and how much cube space you're actually using.
Why the Pallet Calculator Is Useful
Every inch of unused pallet space is money you're paying to ship air.
Freight is priced on space and weight, so a poorly configured pallet costs you twice: once on the outbound shipment, and again when a retailer's distribution center flags a non-compliant load. A pallet space calculator removes the guesswork before your product ever hits the dock.
Use this free pallet calculator tool to:
Cut freight spend. Fitting 48 cases on a pallet instead of 40 means fewer pallets, fewer LTL charges, and better use of every trailer position you pay for.
Design smarter cartons. If you're still finalizing packaging, run the numbers first. Small dimension changes compound across thousands of shipments.
Quote accurately. Knowing how many cases fit on a pallet lets you give retail buyers real case-per-pallet figures instead of estimates.
Plan storage. Pallet space translates directly into warehouse storage costs. Tighter stacking means a smaller footprint and a lower monthly bill.
Stay compliant. Retailers specify pallet height, overhang, and ti-hi patterns in their routing guides. A pallet stacking calculator helps you build to spec the first time.
Think of it like packing a moving truck. You can throw boxes in and hope for the best, or you can plan the layout and fit everything in one trip. The second approach is always cheaper.
Consider a 3PL for Pallet Optimization
A calculator tells you what should fit. A 3PL makes sure it actually ships that way, every time.
Running the numbers is the easy part. Building consistent, compliant pallets across hundreds of orders — with the right labels, the right stack pattern, and the right documentation for each retail partner — is where most growing brands run into trouble.
At Coast to Coast Fulfillment, pallet configuration is built into the fulfillment workflow. Our team handles:
Retail-compliant palletization for B2B and retail distribution, including DSD, pre-distro, and distro models
Routing guide compliance for partners like Walmart, Target, Kohl's, and Macy's, so your pallets meet spec before they leave our dock
Carrier rate shopping and LTL/FTL coordination so the freight you've optimized is also priced competitively
Kitting and assembly that consolidates SKUs into fewer, denser cartons
Warehousing and distribution from Rhode Island, reaching over 60 million people in the Northeast Corridor within 1–2 days
With 99.5% order accuracy and more than 16 million units picked each year, we know what a well-built pallet is worth — and what a rejected one costs.

Pallet Calculator FAQ
-
It depends entirely on carton dimensions and stack height. A 48" × 40" GMA pallet stacked to 48" holds roughly 40–60 standard cases, but the only accurate answer comes from running your actual box specs through a pallet configuration calculator.
-
Divide the pallet footprint by the carton footprint to get cases per layer, then divide your max stack height by carton height to get layer count. Multiply the two. A how-many-cases-on-a-pallet calculator does this automatically and also tests rotated orientations you might not think to try.
-
Yes. Our free pallet calculator requires no account, no email, and no usage limit.
-
The 48" × 40" GMA pallet is the North American standard and what most retailers expect. Use the pallet size calculator to compare footprints if you're shipping internationally or using custom skids.
-
Significantly. Rotating cartons 90 degrees or switching between block, brick, and pinwheel patterns can add a full row per layer. The calculator tests each option and returns the densest configuration.
